Craft Favourite: Mod Podge

mod podge craft favourite eightandsixteen

For my first Craft Favourite feature I wanted to talk about one of the most versatile and useful supplies in my collection; Mod Podge! Now much more readily available in the UK (stockists include Hobbycraft) if you haven’t already tried it now is the time!

It may look like a basic PVA glue but it can also be used as a sealant and to give a certain finish to your project. There are many different types available (some within the UK, others can be ordered online) including sparkle, paper, fabric, dishwasher safe, outdoor and more. The three currently in my collection are basics Glossy & Matte as well as 3D Dimensional Magic which is perfect for jewellery projects!

If you’re looking for ideas of projects Mod Podge is perfect for here’s a few examples from my DIY archives:

Craft Favourite: Frixion Pens

The next product to feature in our Craft Favourite spotlight is the Pilot Frixion pen.

These pens are an absolute firm favourite in both of our books, and our craft stashes will never be without them! The beauty of the Frixion pen is that the ink is erasable - as you might have guessed - by friction. This means that on paper you can use the top end of the pen to rub the ink away, and on fabric you can erase the ink using an iron.

I personally cannot craft without a Frixion pen now - from marking quilt lines on a quilt, to notches on a dress pattern, or measurements on a paper craft, these pens are just so darn useful!

Craft Favourite: Chalk Marker

You know those products that sometimes you see and think, "huh, what's the point?"... and then you try out said product and realise that actually it's awesome, and then wonder how you ever lived without it?!
Well, that's the story for me with Chalk Markers. Having started out thinking that a regular stick of chalk would be just fine for an outdoors project, I soon realised after a night of heavy rain that I needed something more substantial.

This lead me to buying a chalk marker from amazon, and I have to say - it's amazing! It is so much easier to write with than a stick of chalk, has much better definition, and so far (2 months later) it is water resistant.
This did prove a little tricky when I first started using it as it really doesn't budge; I'd suggest using a pencil to outline your writing first to make things easier. If you make a mistake and wash it straight away it will probably be fine, but after 24 hours this stuff isn't going anywhere!

The only question now is, how many other objects can I cover in blackboard paint just so that I can write on them?! :)
